Superior insulation performance

Lacuna folding doors are certified, airtight, and highly insulating. Our patented system is designed with a focus on exceptional insulation and tightness, achieved through double sealing in the frame and triple sealing between the door panels.

Lacuna folding doors are built to perform in temperatures ranging from –60°C to +50°C. That’s why our products are used and appreciated both far above the Arctic Circle and deep in Africa. Excellent insulation and tightness work both ways!

FOLDING DOOR WITH GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY

Insulation and airtightness are crucial to the overall value of a folding door. That is why it has always been fundamental for Lacuna to create a product that remains completely airtight—even in hurricanes far more severe than those we normally experience in Denmark.

Long after the Great Belt Bridge has been closed and Hurricane Katrina has devastated New Orleans, a Lacuna folding door still remains airtight.

NOMINATED FOR ENERGY AWARD

This makes a Lacuna folding door the most cost-effective solution in the long run. There is a reason why Lacuna, with its products, has been nominated several times for the Danish Construction Association’s Energy Award. We continuously develop our products—Lacuna takes pride in staying ahead of the curve in terms of functionality, finish, burglary protection, durability, and energy efficiency.

When it comes to product development, we think German—and when it comes to design, we think Danish. We proudly sell to many countries around the world.

WOOD WITH SUPERIOR INSULATION

When it comes to insulation performance, a Lacuna product is among the very best. Insulation is measured by the Uw value, which indicates thermal performance—the lower the Uw value, the better the insulation.

A standard window with double-glazed low-energy glass typically has a Uw value of around 1.2–1.5. A Lacuna product, with comparable glazing, achieves a Uw value of 1.05, and with standard triple glazing, it can reach as low as 0.8. The numbers speak for themselves—this corresponds to a home requiring only 40% of the energy for heating compared to a standard window or folding door.

TMT COMPOSITE® HEAT-TREATED WOOD

For painted products, we use FSC-certified, laminated, heat-treated beech wood from Germany. Heat-treated beech has the same durability as teak—durability class 1—which is wood that lasts almost indefinitely and does not rot.

In addition, it offers insulation performance far superior to that of untreated wood species, and, importantly, it does not absorb water in wet and humid conditions, giving the wood outstanding dimensional stability.

WOOD-ALU
...NOT FOR A FOLDING DOOR

For this reason, Lacuna products are not manufactured in wood-aluminium, which may be a suitable solution for a single or two door panels within one frame. The challenges with other wood types arise when there are three or more panels in a single frame.

Lacuna folding doors are exposed to highly varied climatic conditions. In places like Bergen in Norway or the Faroe Islands, it can rain 250 days or more each year, while in other regions it rarely rains at all. Therefore, the dimensional stability of the wood is crucial to ensuring effective insulation performance.

A LACUNA DOOR AFTER 4 MONTHS IN SALTWATER

A high-quality folding door that is expected to remain airtight for 50 years depends on the dimensional stability of the door panels. In this video, we showcase one of the many tests our products undergo to meet both your expectations and ours.

The frame is made from TMT Composite®, which is heat-treated beech. After 4 months in saltwater, the frame has expanded by only 0.4 mm—meaning the paint remains crack-free and the dimensional stability is exceptionally high.
