All folding doors, patio doors, and windows require maintenance. This includes cleaning, lubrication, and inspection of seals and glazing gaskets.
All windows and doors placed on the EU market must be CE-marked in accordance with DS/EN 14351-1, the common European product standard for windows and doors. Lacuna is CE quality certified and is authorized to apply the CE marking to our products. The CE mark can be found in the rebate on the hinge side of the folding door and on the last page of the installation guide.
The Declaration of Conformity is attached to the door packaging and can be provided upon request.
Depending on orientation and location, dirt will accumulate on the exterior frame and casing surfaces. These should be cleaned at appropriate intervals, typically in connection with window cleaning, where the frame and casing are washed with water mixed with a standard cleaning agent.
Afterwards, surfaces and edges should be wiped dry. All external metal parts must be cleaned regularly. Early signs of corrosion can, if addressed promptly, be treated with a regular scouring sponge (not steel/metal).
All moving parts at hinges, as well as closing and locking mechanisms, should be lubricated once a year. Pure metal connections should be lubricated with oil, which can be applied using an oil can, syringe, or spray can with a thin nozzle.
For moving connections between metal and plastic, lubrication should be done using paraffin wax or a suitable sliding agent. Such connections are found in various types of sliding tracks, and it is important for proper function that the sliding surfaces are also kept clean.
All elements are factory-treated with oil. This base treatment is not permanent. The elements must be oiled for the first time immediately after installation. The oil should be applied lightly with a cloth, and any excess oil must be wiped off within 15 minutes. The glass should be cleaned immediately afterwards (to remove any oil residue).
General maintenance:
Oil-treated elements must be maintained on the exterior at least twice a year. For south- and west-facing sides, maintenance is recommended in spring and autumn, depending on how exposed the elements are. The oil will give the wood a beautiful finish.
On the interior, follow-up treatment is rarely necessary.
If the elements are not maintained with oil, small cracks may develop in the wood over time as it dries out (shrinks).
Lack of maintenance will affect the door’s functionality, durability, and warranty.
All our elements are factory-finished with a water-based, environmentally friendly paint. This is a complete treatment. Over time, however, exposure to weather conditions will mean that the elements should be refinished (typically only after many years of use).
Lacuna recommends refinishing façade folding doors with AQUATOP 2600-22 from Teknos. Remember to provide the color code listed in the appendix of the order confirmation. When the door is delivered, repair paint of the correct type will be included.
Inspect the façade folding door for any damage or cracks. Generally, use oil-based filler on bare wood and acrylic filler on primed and painted wood. Surfaces should be painted with a brush or roller until full coverage is achieved.
We know that visiting Denmark isn’t possible for everyone, so we’ve created a short video to give you a quick visual tour of our showroom and show Lacuna’s folding doors in action. It’s an easy way to experience the product and feel more confident in making the right decision.
